Eric J. Gruber
Eric J. Gruber has worked in technology for more than 10 years after switching from a career as a journalist.

Eric's interest in the web began while working at a newspaper as a pagination editor. He spent his lunch breaks in his car reading web design books, and then experimented with what he read in his spare time in the evenings. His studies paid off, leading to a career in web development working for Mid-America Regional Council, City of Lawrence, Kansas, and City of Olathe, Kansas, before coming to VML. In his career, he has used Drupal (and some WordPress) to get things done.

A fan of autodidacticism, Eric likes to consume podcasts, audiobooks, and ebooks to expand his knowledge for both work, health, and pleasure. He co-authored one book Learning Rails 3, and went solo for another, Coding with Coda, both for O'Reilly Media. He also co-organizes a Meetup group, Lawrence Coders, has particiated in Startup Weekend, and is a Certified ScrumMaster.

Eric is a songwriter and musician, can play guitar, bass guitar, and sing, and likes motorcyles (although it's been too long since he rode one). Eric and his wife, Amy, have three children: Ember, Remi, and Rogan. He lives in Lawrence, Kansas, but a move to the KC area is planned for 2016.

Ever since I was little I was taking computers apart and rebuilding them. Since then I've had various jobs in tech, but eventually I stumbled upon programming and development. The problem solving and engineering of solutions drew me in like moth to flame. I continue to refine my skills and have found my passion for front-end development and Angular. Most of what I learned has been self taught and from mentoring in the community. I can't say enough about how great the community is for development!

I love the web and I love helping others understand what the web is and how it works. Currently working with Integrity Inspired Solutions, a Lean/Agile Consultancy. We help teams transition to a more agile way of working and we do that through our software development. Currently working with Angular, Node, Firebase, ASP.NET and dipping my toes into React.
